Welter Racing will be next year’s Garage 56 entrant, and they’ll be making a car like that with a 1.6L turbo 3cyl fueled by liquid biomethane.

This sounds good and in the spirit of innovation Le Mans is built on, and it will be interesting to see this run next year. If it works like a charm, we may be looking at a new fuel source to improve on for the next generation.

Not getting my hopes up yet. There have been garage 56 entries every year since 2012. Only 2 ever got past the concept stage, the Deltawing and the ZEOD RC.

Hope they find enough financial backing to keep themselves afloat. It was such a shame that the MyPerrin LMP1 didn’t make it to the grid because of this small issue of monies :/

You’re completely right, so much garage 56 vaporware is going on. A team of students at my university is also trying to get a garage 56 entry, however the ASO won’t give them a chance because they don’t think it to be possible to build the car that is being designed. In which I must say I agree with the ASO, but that has more to do with my personal experience with those guys while building a car at my own team of students.

The thing is that teams only have an idea for their car when they get the garage 56 entry a year before the race. The Deltawing worked because it was an existing 2 year old design that was focused on a new concept over the technology. The ZEOD was just a shameless Deltawing ripoff with an electric drivetrain that lasted less than 5 laps. I think if we are ever going to see a vehicle like this it is going to be the new engine in an existing LMP1 or LMP2 chassis.
